Integrative Biology Undergraduate Mentorship Program (iBUMP)

I am a co-founder of a new mentorship initiative at the University of Guelph called the Integrative Biology Undergraduate Mentorship Program (iBUMP) that pairs upper year undergraduate students with a graduate student mentor. I currently serve as Chair for this program while also participating as a mentor.

Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides

I am a long-term volunteer with Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides through their Foster Puppy Program. I just finished raising and training a dog to become a service animal for a Canadian with a disability.

McMaster Children & Youth University

I am an active participant of the Guelph chapter of the McMaster Children and Youth University (MCYU) program. We deliver biology-based hands-on workshops to youth at schools and community centers within the Guelph/Kitchener/Cambridge/Hamilton area and have just developed a new educational initiative. This initiative runs over one semester with multiple visits, and focuses on testing alternatives to road salt through experimental manipulation of aquariums with local species of macroinvertebrates and plants.

Departmental Service at the University of Guelph

I am an active member of the Integrative Biology Graduate Student Council and serve on 2 departmental committees: the Space Use Review Committee as well as a search committee for hiring an education-based tenure-track faculty member.

Let’s Talk Science

I volunteer with Let’s Talk Science to deliver hands-on STEM workshops to youth in both community and school settings. These workshops are designed to be fun and engaging, while also educational.

Guelph Bug Day

I am a volunteer with Guelph Bug Day. Each year, Bug Day helps connect the community with the invertebrates that make up our world. We focus on education and outreach by leading nature hikes designed to highlight local diversity and giving hands-on experiences with local and exotic species. Come by during Bug Day 2019 to hold a Madagascar hissing cockroach or even a tarantula!
